Leadership

For a person to be a good leader, others need to listen to him/her. They need to gain other’s respect. Trust. This can not be done by fear. In my opinion, all of your actions reflect on you. All bad acts have repercussions. True, you can get people to listen to you by threatening them with violence or harsh words, but no one will ever really trust or respect you until you trust or respect them. In War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, the farmer enters Joey’s (the horse) stall late one night. The farmer is holding a whip and is clearly drunk. He tells Joey that if he misbehaves, he will whip him until he bleeds. The farmer raises his whip, ready to strike, when Joey kicks the farmer. Hard. He returned the next day with a limp. The farmer tells his son to train Joey and if he ever misbehaves again, he will be shot. This shows that being cruel or using violence never goes unpunished. It also shows that others will eventually stop tolerating it and fight back.
