Reflection:Seventh Grade

When I first arrived in August, I expected seventh grade to be a piece of cake since we had gotten over the big switch from being on top of the elementary school pecking order to being total shrimps in middle school. But soon I realized, I couldn’t have been more wrong. By October, my day went like this: school, dance, homework, four hours of sleep then, rinse and repeat.

Eventually I figured out that if I actually do my homework in wildcat time instead of doing karaoke, I can cut my homework load in half. I also learned that you need to remember to do your home work before midnight if possible if you don’t want to fall asleep in class and have the teacher call on you, because you won’t have a clue about what is going on and you will look like a total idiot! Also, parents appreciate it if you don’t play football or any other sports with your STAAR results.

As the school year comes to a close, my homework burden still is piling up. And the days until the final school bell rings seems to be centuries away. If I had to do it all over again I think I might die, but it has been a good school year. I leave seventh grade with one last piece of advice–don’t make Ms.Doyne mad!

Leadership

For a person to be a good leader, others need to listen to him/her. They need to gain other’s respect. Trust. This can not be done by fear. In my opinion, all of your actions reflect on you. All bad acts have repercussions. True, you can get people to listen to you by threatening them with violence or harsh words, but no one will ever really trust or respect you until you trust or respect them. In War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, the farmer enters Joey’s (the horse) stall late one night. The farmer is holding a whip and is clearly drunk. He tells Joey that if he misbehaves, he will whip him until he bleeds. The farmer raises his whip, ready to strike, when Joey kicks the farmer. Hard. He returned the next day with a limp. The farmer tells his son to train Joey and if he ever misbehaves again, he will be shot. This shows that being cruel or using violence never goes unpunished. It also shows that others will eventually stop tolerating it and fight back.

Poem

“Solitude”

By: Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone;
For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth,
But has trouble enough of its own.
Sing, and the hills will answer;
Sigh, it is lost on the air;
The echoes bound to a joyful sound,
But shrink from voicing care.

Rejoice, and men will seek you;
Grieve, and they turn and go;
They want full measure of all your pleasure,
But they do not need your woe.
Be glad, and your friends are many;
Be sad, and you lose them all,—
There are none to decline your nectared wine,
But alone you must drink life’s gall.

Feast, and your halls are crowded;
Fast, and the world goes by.
Succeed and give, and it helps you live,
But no man can help you die.
There is room in the halls of pleasure
For a large and lordly train,
But one by one we must all file on
Through the narrow aisles of pain.

This poem tells us to look on the bright side of things even when the world is dragging you down. It also tells you that if you keep a good attitude, the world will reward you. Keep your head up!

Favorite movie

When I was little, I just couldn’t do without my favorite movie, Finding Nemo. I watched the journey through the big blue sea so many times, my parents grew tired of hearing me say, ” I want to watch Nemo!” And while I thought it was the most amazing thing to watch Dori and Marlyn’s expedition to find his beloved son, my brothers moaned and groaned through the whole movie. I never understood how someone could get tired of watching this movie! It had humor that all ages could appreciate. That’s why it was my all time favorite movie when I was four years old. While I watched it twelve times a day I ate my families lifetime supply of ice cream and popcorn. Without it I would have been bored out of my mind for the sort period of time when it was my favorite movie.

Austin

“What did you do over the summer?”
“Oh, I went to Texas!”
“Cool! How funny did their accents sound? Did you get me a pair of boots and a cowboy hat? I bet you went on a bunch of trail rides right?”
Let me just say, most of the stereotypes you hear about Texas are not true! I’ve traveled all over the country, but if I had to pick one place to live, I would stay in Austin.

One reason Austin is the best place on earth is because Austin is the live music capital of the world! People come from all over the country to go to our famous music festivals like Austin City Limits or South by Southwest. These music festivals feature some of the greatest bands and singers in the country! Now! Does that sound very western to you?

Austin is also known for its amazing food! From Italian to our famous tex-mex, austin will surely have something to cater to your need! For example, when my brother moved to Boulder Colorado, he said he instantly missed Austin’s amazing food,so when he comes to visit, we go to all of his favorite resteraunts. Which lucky for me, are my favorites too! Yes, we do have BBQ resteraunts, but that does not make us rednecks!

Austin is not my favorite place on earth because I already live here, but because of all of the amazing features! These examples were just two of my favorite things about my home. There is so much more to Texas than rodeos and barrel racing! The stereo types are not true. They are sometimes insulting! This is why you never judge a book by its cover.

The Kiddie Pool (Concrete Language)

Sun beats down on the whole world.
A title wave
A title wave of warmth, no excruciating hotness. A pain prickles on my neck, no my face, no my arms. It spreads through my entire body. All I can do is lie here as the sun bakes me alive.
A pool.
The water.
I crawl towards the seemingly blue, cold water that awaits.
Ouch!
My whole body aches as I start my expedition.
Why is it so far away?
Approximately an hour later, I reach the clear elixir that will hopefully save me from the scorching sun. My skin is now a bright red.
Without hesitation, I plunge into the shallowness of the kiddie pool in my back yard.
The water!
It is even hotter than the wave of heat penetrating the whole world!

Chocolate is Necessary

Without chocolate, the depressed population will increase and people will very likely die. Chocolate cheers everyone up —except dogs—this is why chocolate is necessary in a modern day life.

Chocolate has a lot of calories to give you energy to get you through the day. For instance, after I take acro classes and have been turning upside down for the past hour, I am ready to jump into a pit of feathered pillows, but after I eat chocolate, I have enough energy to get me through the next 3 hours of dance ahead. This is why chocolate is essential in my life.

Chocolate also has a lot of sugar in it which makes people in a good mood. For example, when ever I feel like sitting in a corner and dying—but not really—I eat chocolate and instantly feel better. This is why people would most likely die if there wasn’t chocolate.

Chocolate is very important in a modern day life. When life gives you chocolate, eat it. Many people go through their day without anything good to say about it, but if you have chocolate, you can’t say your whole day was dreadful. After all, what’s the use in life when you have nothing cheerful in it.

Invited to Leave

Why do all of my math teachers seem to take a “special interest” in me? I’m not that stupid am I? I know I’m not that smart because two of them asked me if I wanted to leave the class. The difference between them is one of them was hoping the answer would be no and the other wanted it to be yes.
In fifth grade, my math teacher finally taught me how to multiply big numbers despite the fact that I was in advanced math. Then pushed me into joining double advanced math when I some how, magically scored a 92 on the placement test.
In sixth grade, my math teacher instantly noticed that I was struggling. To make it even more obvious, my mom told him that on the first day of school. He pushed me to do better and never gave up on me. I thought that I would finally be ok.
At the beginning of this year, my (old) math teacher realized that she shouldn’t even try to educate me the second I walked in her cold room. Then, no one ever told me about the summer homework and she had me start and complete all 96 problems of it that night and return it to her the next morning. About a two weeks later, she started suggesting that I move out. This was my first ” invitation to leave”. By the next week, I had gotten a 36 on a test and got a very firm ” invitation to leave”. This time I obliged. I blame her for not making even the slightest effort!
Thanks to her, I am right back where I started last year. The good thing that came out of this is that now I have a teacher that actually believes in me.

Pineapple Cookies

My brother, Brian gave me a pineapple cookie cutter. He gave me this because my favorite show is Psych and there is a pineapple in every episode. A few weeks ago, we made cookies. It was around Christmas when we were visiting my grandparents and made the cookies

Tremaine

This has honestly been the best convention I have ever been to! Tremaine is a dance convention/competition that I went to this weekend. The teachers were all amazing, but my favorite part was the competition. All of the groups from our studio won something (either 1st 2nd or 3rd in their category) after the convention day ended on Saturday, we all ran up to Grace’s hotel room. She apparently got the last one available and it happened to be a suite. She was just seeing it for the 1st time. We all got ready in a hurry because we only had an hour. It sounds like a lot of time, but trust me it’s not! Especially when the teacher has your costume and you have to straighten your hair and you have to put on fake eyelashes for the furs time ever without any help. Not to mention throwing on about ten pounds of makeup. In the end our group got first place in our division. I was so proud of everyone! The only bad part about the convention was that I had to wake up at 5:30 both days. Good luck keeping me awake during class Mrs.Schoch!
